community classes

Classes are suitable for all; all bodies, all abilities, all identities. With Olivia’s signature style of exploration and meeting ourselves where we are, classes vary a little each week and supportive variations are always offered and encouraged.

Holistic yoga

These classes start gently and build to become more dynamic. We will explore a range of yoga practices, including asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation and relaxation.

Yin and Yang Yoga

Thursday 10.30 - 11.30 am | Jordans Courtyard, Horton Cross | Contact Jordans yoga barn directly for prices and to book, click here

Based on the Taoist concepts of Yin and Yang which make up the opposing qualities in all things, this yoga class will explore the balance between stillness and movement. Yin is more passive, cooling and internal which will be explored through floor-based, long held postures, relaxation and meditation. Yang is more dynamic, warming and external with flowing sequences and strengthening shapes.

FAQs

Do I need to be flexible/toned/young/mobile to practise yoga?

No! Although the media and yoga industry would have you believe otherwise, yoga is a holistic, accessible practice for everyone, regardless of how your body looks or moves. I encourage lots of exploration and curiousity in my classes so you can tune in and work with your body, rather than against it. We are all unique and our yoga practice should reflect that.

What style of yoga do you teach?

I don’t teach a particular style (such as Iyengar or power yoga). My approach to teaching is holistic, drawing on a range of practices from the vast and varied yoga tradition. However, you can expect different things from my classes, as detailed above.

Do I need to bring my own equipment to class?

Please bring your own mat and blanket, plus any other props you have that you like to practise with. I tend to use blankets, blocks, straps and sometimes chairs in class, but these are provided.

What should I wear?

Comfort is key! Breathable fabrics for warmer sessions and layers for cooler ones, especially during Winter.

What language do you teach in?

All my classes are taught in English and I use Sanskrit, the original language of yoga, when naming asanas (postures) and other practices. This is important to me so as not to remove yoga from it’s origins and to invoke the resonance of the language when spoken. I sometimes offer chanting in class which you are welcome to join in with but the option to listen is always given too.
